ActionTec 1520 Quick Setup for Windows - Standard Accounts
Physical Installation
  • Plug in the power supply and connect the power cable to the DSL router. The Power LED should begin flashing rapidly for about 5 seconds and then go steady. The Internet LED should then start blinking.
  • The phone cord included with your router is your DSL cable, this is the cable that should be used to connect your router to the phone jack. Plug one end into the DSL port on the back of the Router and the other end directly into your phone jack on the wall. Run the line directly from the wall to the router, the line must not be plugged into anything other than the router and the wall. Splitters, answering machines, surge protectors, fax machines, etc., will interfere with the operation of your DSL line. After connecting the DSL cable, the Internet LED on the front of the router should stop blinking and go solid after 10 to 20 seconds. If the Internet LED does not stop blinking, verify that you have properly connected the telephone line to the router and the wall. If the Internet LED does not stop flashing, and it is past your Qwest activation date, you should call Qwest Technical Support at 1-800-247-7285 to ensure that your line has been activated.

The ActionTec 1520 has two methods for connecting your computer, four Ethernet or LAN ports, and a USB port. Drivers for using the USB port are not yet available. If you do not have an Ethernet connection on your computer, you will not be able to proceed. If your computer has an Ethernet adapter, you should use that connection. If you are using a computer that does not have an Ethernet port, then you should install the Ethernet adapter that is included with the modem. Refer to the installation instructions included with the Ethernet adapter to correctly install the Ethernet adapter in your computer.

Connecting to the Ethernet Port
  • Plug one end of the provided ethernet cable into the first port on the back of the router, labeled 1. With your computer powered on, plug the other end into your computer's ethernet adapter.

Verify Connectivity
  • Make sure that the POWER LED is lit and green on the router. If the POWER does not come on and remain lit, verify that you have correctly connected the power cord to the router. If the light does not remain lit, or continues flashing call our office at 425.818.6500 or 888.662.5274.
  • The last Ethernet Network LED should be lit and green and possibly flickering occasionally. This indicates a connection to your computer. If the indicator light does not come on double check the connection between your computer and the router. If after verifying the connection between the computer and router you are still unable to obtain an Ethernet Network connection, call our office at 425.818.6500 or 888.662.5274 for assistance in diagnosing the cause for this.
  • Make sure the Internet LED is lit and steady. Occasional flickering is normal. If the Internet LED is not lit, or blinking steadily, double check the telephone line connection between the router and the wall. If the Internet light does not stay a steady green color, the router is not receiving a DSL signal from your phone line. Call Qwest Technical Support at 1-800-247-7285 to ensure that your line has been activated.
